The fortification (earth wall with palisades and small forts) was built in 1703/04 and operated until the end of the 18th century. The wall was supposed to support the imperial troops of the Habsburgs in the fight against the Kuruzzen - rural rebels from Hungary in the wake of the uprising of Franz II. Rákóczi (1704–1711) - and to block the access from Hungary to Vienna.

Note: Remains of the Kuruzzenschanze are also in the KG Laafeld.
This entry also protects the remains of the Kuruzzenschanze in the communities of Fehring , Neusiedl am See , Rohrau , Petronell-Carnuntum , Engelhartstetten , Marchegg and Weiden an der March .

The war memorial chapel for the fallen of the Second World War was built in the style of a medieval charnel house in 1960–1961. It is in the military cemetery near the Protestant cemetery. Inside is the signed and dated wall painting by the Graz painter August Raidl from 1961 in the tradition of dance of death depictions, it depicts death in the form of a soldier alongside everyday activities. Above it is a scroll with a quote from Albrecht Goes : "With us, we eat and we drink, we work and celebrate, the dead always sit at the table".

The former armory was built in 1588 at the same time as the provision house in Langgasse 42. The two buildings are connected by courtyards. Two-story arcades in the courtyard. The facade with two lateral 3/8 bay porches and a rustikaportal was renewed in 1798. The house has served as a city museum since 1954.

According to the inscription, the Marian column on the main square was donated around 1680 on the occasion of a plague epidemic. The four figures are from 1766. The column was restored in 1952.

The town hall from the 15th to 17th centuries has a facade from the 19th century. The octagonal clock tower is in its three lower storeys late Gothic with between Eckdiensten clamped ogee and finally projecting gallery . The upper floors of the tower and its onion helmet were built by Johann Michael Schmidt after the city fire of 1806. The room on the ground floor was converted into a war memorial, the exterior design was done in 1928 by Hans Mauracher and Rudolf Hofer (1894–1956), inside with mosaics by Fritz Silberbauer from 1958. In the tower room above, frescoes by Fritz Silberbauer from 1928.

The Pistorhaus is the former manor house of the Alt-Ottersbacher. In 1951, against the courtyard, in the oldest part, secular frescoes from around 1400 were uncovered in a room with barrel vaults, which show the siege of the city and hunting scenes and are attributed to the painter and builder Johannes Aquila . The front part of the house with the hall dates from the 16th century.

The core of the Dechanthof dates from the 14th to 15th centuries, one stone is dated 1598, and Gothic pointed arch windows have been preserved. The Dechanthof received a new facade as part of a renovation in the 3rd quarter of the 18th century. Outside a niche figure of Johann Nepomuk from the 18th century. Inside there is a room with landscape paintings from the beginning of the 19th century, which are attributed to Matthias Schiffer . The wrought-iron garden portal is marked 1803.

The building on the corner of Murgasse dates from the 16th and 17th centuries, it has a round arched portal and rich sgraffito decoration with foliage cartouches and angel heads. The facade was restored in 1954. On the upper floor there are stucco ceilings from the 17th century.
