Bernkopf

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bern head , called women's prison, was a Meistersinger , who worked in the first half of the 15th century. The chroniclers Eberhard Windeck and Lorenz Fries expressly state that the two names the poet himself mentions in his songs refer to the same person. Because of his interest in the conditions in Mainz , it is assumed that he came from Mainz or at least worked there.

Two political songs by him have come down to us. In one he celebrates the battle of Bulgnéville on July 2, 1431, in which many Palatinate knights were killed, including Philipp von Ingelheim . The other song is about a dispute between Count Michel von Wertheim († 1440) and the Würzburg Bishop Johann II von Brunn († 1440) in 1437.
