The Fraunhofer Institute for Communication, Information Processing and Ergonomics FKIE (Fraunhofer FKIE) belongs to the Fraunhofer Society and is based in Wachtberg and Bad Godesberg . Its activities are assigned to applied research and development "... with the aim of identifying existence-threatening risks at an early stage, minimizing them and making them manageable ..." in ten departments.
The institute is headed since 2010 by Peter Martini, who in personal union of the Institute of computer science at the well head of the department 4 Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University of Bonn is.
At the beginning of 2017 there were more than 400 employees and the annual budget was around 30 million euros.
history
In 1955 the “Society for the Promotion of Astrophysical Research e. V. ”was founded, in 1975 the name was changed to“ Research Society for Applied Natural Sciences e. V. ”and finally in 2009 the incorporation into the Fraunhofer Society.
