Diana H. Wall
Diana Harrison Wall (also: Diana W. Freckman ; * 1943 in Durham , North Carolina ) is an American ecologist and soil scientist at Colorado State University .
Live and act
Diana Wall is best known for her work on soil ecology , in particular on the biodiversity of nematodes and their role in the carbon dioxide cycle and soil fertility , and on the relationship between the ecosystems above and below the earth and their dependence on physical conditions in general and human influence in particular. She made her contribution to the turning of science and scientists to ecological and social issues.
Wall earned a bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Kentucky in 1965 and a Ph.D. in plant pathology . As a postdoctoral researcher , she worked with Samuel A. Sher at the University of California, Riverside , from 1976 as a research assistant, later receiving a professorship in “ nematology ” there. In the meantime, she was also in charge of the Drylands Research Institute (Associate Director) and the National Science Foundation (Associate Program Director) . In 1993 Wall moved to Colorado State University (CSU), where she took on a professorship in their Forest, Rangeland, and Watershed Stewardship Department and was director of the Natural Resource Ecology Laboratory until 2005 .
Wall has been an “outstanding professor” (Distinguished Professor) for biology at the CSU since 2006 and has been director of the School of Global Environmental Sustainability since 2008 . She holds another professorship for biology at the Natural Resource Ecology Laboratory of the CSU.
Diana Wall was President of the Society of Nematologists (1993/94), the American Institute of Biological Sciences (1992) and the Ecological Society of America (1999/2000) and is the Scientific Director of the Global Soil Biodiversity Initiative . She is the author of more than 200 scientific publications and (as of December 2018) has an h-index of 81.
