O. Fred Donaldson

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Oscar Frederick "Fred" Donaldson (born July 4, 1943 ) is an American geographer and inventor of a game method he calls Original Play , about which he has also written two books.

Career

Donaldson attended the Chinese Language Institute at Ohio State University . He earned a bachelor's degree in geography from Wayne State University in 1965 and a master’s degree two years later . He then worked at the University of Washington in Seattle , where he spoke in 1974 on race relations in the USA from a socio-geographical perspective under the title To keep them in their place; a socio-spatial perspective on race relations in America doctorate . At the Department of Geography at California State University in Hayward , he worked on temporary research projects, including a train-the-trainer project.

Donaldson plays (according to his own statement since 1970) with people of all ages and with wild wolves, dolphins, bears and in culturally diverse communities, in refugee camps, with street children, with gang members, with managers and in prisons. He claims to have discovered a connecting pattern that he calls "Original Play".

Criticism and controversy

The person O. Fred Donaldson is exposed to constant criticism in Germany, Austria, South Tyrol and Switzerland because of various discrepancies and false information about himself and his education.

education

Contrary to what Donaldson himself stated in interviews, he has no educational or psychological training and has never been a professor in the relevant faculties. The media scientist Stefan Weber calls his biography "constructed" and assigns the book "Playing by heart" to esotericism and not to science.

"Foundation" Original Play

Donaldson is on the supervisory board of the controversial International Foundation for Original Play, founded in Poland in 2018 .

Allegations of promoting sexual assault on children

After Original Play was linked to sexual assault on children and pedophilia in media reports, the implementation of Original Play in daycare centers was banned in the German states of Bavaria, Berlin, Brandenburg, Bremen, North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate in autumn 2019 because it cannot be ruled out that boundaries may be exceeded and the child’s wellbeing at risk. The Evangelical Church also refused to practice Original Play at church-owned day care centers in autumn 2019.

Alleged awards

In interviews and self-introductions, Donaldson claims to have been nominated or awarded for various international awards.

Pulitzer Prize

Donaldson's self-introduction to the International Foundation for Original Play Foundation and some press releases reported that Donaldson was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize . However, Donaldson is not on the Pulitzer website; it is also very easy to declare yourself "nominated" by filling out a form and transferring $ 50  .

Award from the UN

In interviews, Donaldson claims to have been recognized by the UN for violence prevention; there is no evidence of this either, apart from his own statement.
