Life

In the mid-1980s, Fred Fish began collecting freely available software ( freeware or shareware ) for the Amiga and putting it together on floppy disks , the fish disks. These were mainly distributed worldwide by Amiga magazines, but also by mail order companies and file sharing networks. Since computer networks were not yet widespread at that time, Fred Fish made a significant contribution to the distribution of software for the Amiga with his Fish Disks. Besides Fred Fish there were several other Amiga freeware providers, but most of them put their collections together from the Fish Disks.

The Fish Disks has 1120 issues. They contain both user programs and games. Fred Fish later released software on CD under the company name Cronus . On January 19th, 1998 he announced the end of sales activities in the Amiga sector.

Fred Fish worked at Cygnus Solutions before joining Be Inc. in 1998 . In the last years of his life he fulfilled his dream of sailing the oceans.

Fred Fish died at his Idaho home in 2007.
