Fredan

Fredan

Fredan is an island belonging to Sweden in the Stockholm archipelago .

The island, built on with at least one building, belongs to the municipality of Nacka and is located north of the island of Tegelön in Höggarnsfärden . To the southeast lies the island of Onsdan och Torsdan , to the west of Lördan . The ship's passage from the Baltic Sea to Stockholm runs north of Fredans . Fredan extends from west to east about 170 meters, with a width of up to 120 meters.

The island is already on a map from 1600, but is still called Tallholmen there. In 1670 the name Fredan or Stora Fredan can be found. In German the name means Friday or large Friday . The reason for the name is unclear. There may be a reference to the Nordic goddess Freya . The name Fredan may have been the trigger for the neighboring islands to be named after the days of the week. From southeast to northwest lie the islands of Måndan (Monday), Tisdan (Tuesday), Onsdan och Torsdan (Wednesday and Thursday), Fredan (Friday) and Lördan (Saturday). There is no island in the series with a name referring to Sunday. Other assumptions suggest that farmers used the small islands as pasture on the weekday and that the cattle stayed on Tegelön on Sundays.
