Tisdan

Tisdan

Tisdan is an island belonging to Sweden in the Stockholm archipelago .

The island belongs to the municipality of Nacka and is located in Höggarnsfjärden , south of the ship passage leading from Stockholm to the Baltic Sea . To the west of Tisdan is the much larger island of Tegelön , and to the southeast is the small island of Måndan . There are several buildings on Tisdan, mainly used as summer houses. The partially forested island extends from northwest to southeast over about 230 meters with a width of up to 100 meters.

The name of the island has been used since 1906 and means Tuesday in German . It fits into the row of neighboring islands. From southeast to northwest lie the islands of Måndan (Monday), Tisdan (Tuesday), Onsdan och Torsdan (Wednesday and Thursday), Fredan (Friday) and Lördan (Saturday). There is no island in the series with a name referring to Sunday. The reason for the unusual naming is unclear. Presumably the name was a continuation after an island, Fredan, possibly with a reference to the Nordic goddess Freya , was given a name that refers to a weekday. Other assumptions suggest that farmers used the small islands as pasture on the weekday and that the cattle stayed on Tegelön on Sundays.
