Frederic Longàs i Torres
Frederic Longàs i Torres (born August 18, 1897 in Barcelona , † June 17, 1968 in Santiago de Chile ) was a Catalan classical pianist and composer. Longàs was one of the classic representatives of the Catalan school of pianists .
life and work
Frederic Longàs was a student of Joaquim Malats and Enric Granados . At the age of nine he gave his first public piano concerts in Barcelona. He had particularly great success in 1915 with the piano cycles in the Sala Mozart in Barcelona, when he appeared in several chamber music groups with the soprano Mercè Plantada and the cellist Gaspar Cassadó . He also went on concert tours to other parts of the Iberian Peninsula, accompanying the tenor Josep Palet and the soprano Conxita Badia as well as tours to the rest of Europe and America, on which he accompanied the Italian tenor Tito Schipa . From 1940 Longàs established himself in New York City and later in Santiago de Chile . He died here in June 1968.
As a composer, Longàs wrote numerous works for piano such as Jota i Zapateado , the Gran concert espanyol for piano and orchestra and almost one hundred songs, as well as a concerto for orchestra and violin. Longàs often followed Isaac Albéniz in the technique and style of his compositions .
