Frederick Crace Calvert.

Frederick Crace Calvert (born November 14, 1819 in Tooting , Surrey , † October 24, 1873 ) was an English chemist.

He studied chemistry in France with Eugène Chevreul and obtained his doctorate on September 21, 1859 (?) phil. in casting . From 1836 he was a chemist in Rouen and Paris. He was Chevreul's assistant in the tapestry manufacture .

In 1846 he was made honorary professor of chemistry at the Great Britain Royal Institute in Manchester. He was also a lecturer at the Royal School of Medicine and Surgery in London. Until 1866 he brought carbolic acid ( phenol ) onto the market as a disinfectant. He became a member of the Royal Society .
