Frederick Nutter Chasen

Frederick Nutter Chasen ( 1896 - February 13, 1942 ) was a British zoologist and ornithologist.

Life

Chasen was appointed assistant curator at the Raffles Museum in Singapore in 1921 and succeeded Cecil Boden Kloss as its director in 1932 . Chasen was an expert on the birds and mammals of Southeast Asia. He completed the third and fourth volumes of Herbert Christopher Robinson's work on the birds of the Malay Peninsula.

While trying to flee Singapore when the British colony was captured by Japanese troops, Chasen died as a passenger on the converted coal steamer HMS Giang Bee, which sank on February 13, 1942 after enemy fire. He left two daughters, Elisabeth and Heather Chasen . The latter became known as an actress.
