Heather Jean Chasen (born July 20, 1927 in Singapore - † May 22, 2020 ) was a British actress . She gained fame through her appearances in British television series and supporting roles in films such as Cat Run and Les Misérables .

Life

Heather Chasen was born in Singapore in 1927. Her father Frederick Nutter Chasen was curator at the National Museum of Singapore there . Heather's younger sister Christine Elizabeth was born in May 1931. In 1938 the parents divorced. Shortly before the Battle of Singapore , the mother Agnes H. McCullock managed to flee to Great Britain with her two daughters by ship. The father died while trying to leave the country in February 1942 when his ship (the small passenger ship Giang Bee ) was sunk by Japanese troops.

In the UK, Chasen took acting classes at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and made her first stage appearances with actor and comedian Frankie Howerd . After appearances in the play Call Me Jacky on the side of Sybil Thorndike , Chasen appeared in Toronto together with Douglas Fairbanks junior in the play The Pleasure of his Company .

In 1949 Heather Chasen got her first film role in Meet the Duke . From 1960 she gained notoriety primarily through her appearances in various British television series and so-called soap operas . From 1973 to 1974 Chasen played one of the lead roles as Isabel Neal in the drama series Marked Personal in 84 episodes . In the 2000s she appeared as a guest actress in hospital series such as The Bill , Doctors and Casualty . In 2011, Chasen took on the role of Lydia Simmonds in a total of eleven episodes of the soap opera EastEnders . In 2013, she played the role of Lady Altringham in an episode of the miniseries Dancing on the Edge . In 2014 Chasen ended her acting career at the age of 87.

In addition to her career as a television actress, Heather Chasen continued to appear sporadically in film roles. In 1990 she played the mother of Nina Schenk Countess von Stauffenberg in the historical drama Stauffenberg - Conspiracy against Hitler . In later years, Chasen received minor roles in films such as The Social Network (2010) and Cat Run (2011). In 2012 she had her last film appearance as Madame Magloire in the film adaptation of the musical Les Misérables .

Heather Chasen married John Webster in 1949 and had a son who also worked as an actor. She died on May 22, 2020 at the age of 92.
