Gerhard Lange (clergyman, 1933)

Gerhard Lange (born September 22, 1933 in Berlin ; † January 20, 2018 there ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman .

Life

Gerhard Lange received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Berlin on December 17, 1960 through Bishop Julius Cardinal Döpfner . After years of chaplaincy in the parish of St. Martin in Berlin-Kaulsdorf , he was the rector of St. Otto's home in Zinnowitz from 1963 to 1970 . In 1970 he was appointed diocesan youth pastor for the eastern part of the diocese of Berlin.

As the successor to the late Otto Groß , the Berlin Bishop Alfred Cardinal Bengsch appointed him in 1974 as the representative of the Catholic Church in the GDR for contacts with the government. At the same time he took on the task of editor-in-chief of the church newspaper St. Hedwigsblatt . In 1975 Pope Paul VI appointed him . to the papal chaplain of honor with the title Monsignor . In 1981 he was appointed papal honorary prelate by Pope John Paul II. From 1985 he was a partner in the St. Benno publishing house for the diocese of Berlin .

He represented the Catholic Church in the media control council formed in 1990 by the last GDR government. After reunification , the Berlin church press was reorganized and Lange became a spiritual adviser to the Catholic Church Newspaper for the Archdiocese of Berlin . In 1991 he took over the management of the newly created office for contemporary history in the Archdiocese of Berlin . From 1992 he was responsible for the training of theological students as the theological advisor to the archdiocese. In 2004 he retired.

From 2005 to 2009 he was a member of the board of trustees of the Catholic University of Social Sciences in Berlin .
