Frederick Albert Saunders

Frederick Albert Saunders (born August 18, 1875 in London (Ontario) , † June 9, 1963 ) was a Canadian physicist .

life and work

He studied physics at the University of Toronto , where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1895. In 1899 he received his doctorate in the group of Henry A. Rowland at Johns Hopkins University . After a two-year position as an instructor at Haverford College, he received a call to Syracuse University in 1901 . The focus of his work was in the field of spectroscopic investigations.

In 1913 he visited the Cavendish Laboratory at the University of Cambridge and the working group of Friedrich Paschen at the University of Tübingen for scientific studies . In 1916 Saunders was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences , in 1925 to the National Academy of Sciences .

He became known through his work with Henry Norris Russell , which led to the formulation of the Russell-Saunders coupling in 1925 .
