Frederik August Paludan

Frederik August Paludan (born December 11, 1792 in Copenhagen ; † January 3, 1872 there ) was a Danish naval officer.

Life

Paludan began training as a seaman as a cadet in 1804 , became a lieutenant captain in 1827 and a captain in 1838 . He took part in trips to the West Indies and South America.

During the Schleswig-Holstein survey had Paludan command of the Danish battleship Christian VIII. In the Battle of Eckernförde on April 5, 1849 Paludan should together with the frigate Gefion and the two small steamers Geiser and Hekla in the Eckernförde Bay shrink to a Landing of the Schleswig-Holstein Army to fall in the back. The Eckernförde coastal battery under Captain Jungmann and Sergeant Preusser were unable to maneuver the Christian VIII and the Gefion . Paludan had to have the flag removed. Then both sides tried to get the ship's crews off board. During the rescue operations, Paludan's ship exploded, causing deaths on both sides. a. died Preusser.

Paludan was held in German captivity until August 1849, and from April to July 1850 he was held in custody after a trial before a Danish court martial. He was never allowed to command a ship again.
