Frederking & Thaler is a Munich publisher with a focus on illustrated books . He has been part of the GeraNova Bruckmann publishing house since 2008 and today publishes as an imprint of the Bruckmann Verlag. The managing directors are Clemens Schüssler, Henry Allgaier and Claus W. Küster.
High-quality picture books are the trademark of Frederking & Thaler Verlag. These are titles with informative texts about people, animals and nature, written by well-known authors with pictures by famous photographers.
The publishing house was founded in 1988 by Gert Frederking and Monika Thaler . In the beginning there was a series of paperbacks with travel adventures, soon followed by large-format illustrated books and the OnTour program segment with stories of research and adventure trips. From 1998 Frederking & Thaler became part of the Random House publishing group , but in 2002 Monika Thaler and Gert Frederking bought the publisher back. In 2006 Frederking & Thaler was part of the Prestel Publishing Group . When Prestel was sold to Random House in 2008, the publishing house GeraNova Bruckmann acquired Frederking & Thaler Verlag. The illustrated book program was continued and the text books were sold to Piper Verlag . Since 2012 the publisher has been listed as an imprint of Bruckmann Verlag. In 2013 the publisher celebrates its 25th anniversary.
The best-known works that the publisher sells include the desert illustrated volumes by Michael Martin , as well as Die Erde von oben by Yann Arthus-Bertrand and the volume 166 Days in Space by Alexander Gerst .
