Freiherr vom Stein monument in Nebelin (Prignitz)

The Freiherr vom Stein memorial in Nebelin , a district of the Karstädt community in the Brandenburg district of Prignitz , was built in 1913 by residents of the village and on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Leipzig on August 24, 1913 in honor of the Prussian minister and reformer Heinrich Friedrich Karl vom und zum Stein was inaugurated. It is one of the few stone monuments that the addressees of Stein's reforms erected on their own initiative and at their own expense. The Stein reforms liberated the peasants and rural population from hereditary subservience . Even 100 years after the reforms, the memorial did not meet with unanimous approval - the district administrator, landlord and pastor stayed away from the inauguration. The speech had to be taken over at short notice by the village teacher Kurt Skull.

architecture

The base of the monument consists of large boulders ( attachments ) and is crowned by a mighty monolith (also an attachment of around four cubic meters from a meadow on Sollgraben in the Nebeliner Feldmark, donated by the owner Otto Hingst). On the front side of the central stone is provided with a bronze plaque by the Berlin sculptor Helmuth Schievelkamp , which shows the profile of the baron from and to the stone. The plaque bears the inscription: "Freiherr vom Stein - Prussia's reason and precious stone". The years 1813–1913 are carved into the central base stone. The Freiherr vom Stein monument is a monument in the municipality of Karstädt.
