From the beginning of the 19th century, when whey cures were in vogue, to 1956 there were a number of restaurants on the Freudenberg (the first of which burned down in 1842) and even a spa hotel, which was operated at the beginning of the 20th century before the Kurhaus opened Freudenberg went bankrupt. The community then took over the hotel and replaced it with the last of the restaurants up there, which, however, like all previous ones, did not have any economic success. The excursion restaurant, which was burned down by civil protection troops during an exercise in 1956, had been closed after the failure of the project to build a cable car up the mountain. Where the restaurant used to be are still the remains of its foundation walls, a fireplace and the avenue of chestnut trees that used to line the footpath to the restaurant.
