Coat of arms of the Barons of Freystedt

The Freiherren von Freystedt are a Protestant noble family that emerged from an illegitimate relationship between Margrave Karl Friedrich von Baden-Durlach - the later Grand Duke of Baden - and Elise Barbara Schlutter. The gender existed from 1777 to 1917.

history

The progenitor of the family is Carl Friedrich Hermann von Freystedt , whom Karl Friedrich officially recognized as his son in 1777. At the instigation of the margrave, Emperor Joseph II. Freystedt raised to the imperial nobility on December 30, 1777, which was allowed to call himself baron . The male line died out in 1917 with the grand ducal court marshal of Baden Leopold von Freystedt .

In the historical literature, the name is sometimes given in a different spelling: Freistedt, Freistädt.
