Carl Johann Leopold Freiherr von Freystedt (born September 14, 1840 in Karlsruhe , † January 30, 1917 there ) was a grand ducal Oberhofmarschall of Baden .

Origin, marriage and offspring

Leopold came from the Freystedt family on an illegitimate sideline of the Baden family . He was the only son of Heinrich von Freystedt and Mathilde von Mentzingen .

In 1877, at the age of 37, he married the 31-year-old Olga Countess Zeppelin (* November 27, 1846; † April 18, 1920). Since the marriage was childless, the Freystedt family died out with him in the male line.

Life

Freystedt embarked on a military career. In 1859 he became a lieutenant in the Baden Leibdragonerregiment and was promoted to first lieutenant in 1866. In 1867 he was transferred to the 3rd Prince Karl Dragoon Regiment with whom he took part in the Franco-German War . In 1871 he became Rittmeister in the Magdeburg Cuirassier Regiment No. 7 . In 1881 he took the position of personal adjutant to Prince Karl Günther von Schwarzburg-Sondershausen and was promoted to major. In 1885 he entered the service of the Hereditary Grand Duke of Baden, Friedrich II , as court marshal , who married Hilda von Nassau that year . In 1907 he advanced to the position of Oberhofmarschall of the now reigning Grand Duke Friedrich II.

As the last male heir to his family, Freystedt bequeathed his 28 hectare estate in Istein, including land, to the city of Karlsruhe to alleviate the suffering of the war.
