Heinrich von Freystedt

Heinrich Gustav Ludwig Freiherr von Freystedt (born September 1, 1809 in Bruchsal ; † May 8, 1885 ) was a major general in Baden and a Prussian lieutenant general . He was a great-grandson of the first Grand Duke Karl Friedrich from an illegitimate sideline .

Life

Heinrich was the only son of Karl von Freystedt and Luise Julie Hauchecorne.

Military career

Freystedt began his military training in the Baden Army immediately after his confirmation in 1824 and became a lieutenant in 1825 . In 1830 he accompanied his father as an adjutant on diplomatic missions to a number of European capitals. In 1841 he was promoted to Rittmeister and in 1851 to Major . In 1854 he became a lieutenant colonel in command of the 2nd Dragoon Regiment . Further promotions followed (1856 colonel ; 1860 major general). After his retirement in 1866, he was appointed lieutenant general by the emperor in 1877.

In 1852 he was awarded the Commander's Cross, Second Class, of the Order of the Zähringer Lion .

family

He married Aloyse von Blonay (1813–1837) in 1833 and had four children with her, both of whom died early:

  • Emma (* 1837) ⚭ Amnadée Roux

After the death of his first wife, Freystedt married Mathilde Freiin von Mentzingen in 1839 , with whom he had the only surviving son:

  • Leopold (1840–1917), Chamberlain and Court Marshal of the Grand Duke of Baden

Others

Freystedt was a passionate rider who also devoted himself to horse breeding. He spent his retirement partly in Karlsruhe and partly on his estate in Istein , where in 1850 he expanded the former Dinghof of the cathedral chapter of Basel into a small castle with a park.
