Frida Wallberg (born April 28, 1983 in Åtvidaberg ) is a Swedish boxer . She became world champion of amateur boxers in 2001 and of the WBC professional boxing association in 2010.

Career

Amateur area

Frida Wallberg, nicknamed "Golden Girl", started boxing in her hometown Åtvidaberg at the age of 13. Together with Åsa Sandell and Anna Laurell, she is one of the pioneers of women's boxing in Sweden . In 1998, at the age of 15, she became the Swedish champion among senior women in the light welterweight division (at that time up to 63.5 kg body weight). In the course of her career she was Swedish champion five more times until 2003.

In March 1999 she began her international career as an amateur boxer. She started on March 24, 1999 in Greater Sudbury in an international match against Canada and was subject to the older and much more experienced Jaime Clampitt just on points. On March 27, 1999, she defeated in Toronto in another international match Tanja Robertsson on points. At that time, international boxing tournaments for women were still a rarity. One of these tournaments took place in May 1999 in Turku / Finland , the so-called "Feenix Cup". Frida Wallberg won there in the Halbwelter over Jaime Clampitt (10: 6) on points, with which she managed to take revenge for the defeat in the international match in Sudbury. In the final of this tournament she defeated Anna Guiterrez from the United States on points (12: 6) and was the tournament winner.

In 2000 Frida Wallberg became Nordic light welterweight champion in Uppsala with an abandonment victory in the first round in the final over Bettina Hansen from Norway . In the same year she won the 2nd Women's European Cup in Mâcon , a forerunner competition to the European Championships in the same weight class, with points over Ildiko Bado, Hungary (8: 1), Myriam Lamare , France (4: 3) and Lilija Tscharapowa, Russia (7: 3). In April 2001, the first European Women's Championships took place in Saint-Amand-les-Eaux . Frida Wallberg met Myriam Lamare in the quarter-finals and lost to them on points (6:10), which meant that she only came in 5th place. Professional area

Frida Wallberg played her first professional fight on February 6, 2004 in the Falconer Center in Copenhagen , where she won the super featherweight division over Maribel Santana from the Dominican Republic, who had to give up during the break in the second round due to a serious eyebrow injury. On March 13, 2004, she landed a clear win over Wiktoria Oleinik from Ukraine in the Brondby halls in Copenhagen . On April 3, 2004, she won the SAS Radisson in Aarhus / Denmark over the American Sharon Gaines clearly on points. A clear point win she succeeded in her fourth fight, which she denied on November 12, 2004 in the Brondby halls. There she beat the Bulgarian Stojanka Krastewa.

On June 17, 2005, she played in the SAS Radisson in Aarhus against the Kenyan Fatuma Zarika a fight for the vacant WIBF Intercontinental Super Featherweight title. In the Sundstra Idrottshus in Karlstad , she won over Nicole Boss from Switzerland over six laps, clearly on points. On November 27, 2010 she got the chance at Johanneshov in Stockholm against Olivia Gerula from Canada to fight for the WBC women's super-featherweight title. After eight rounds she managed to win a point, making her the new world champion of this association.
