Myriam Lamare (born January 1, 1975 in Saint-Denis ) is a French boxer . She was world and European champion among amateur boxers and world champion among professional boxers.

Career

Amateur area

Myriam Lamare is the daughter of Algerian immigrants to France. Growing up in Saint Denis, where she practiced athletics as a teenager , she later moved to Toulouse and began training there in 1996 at a boxing club. Her first coach was Louis Lavaly, who looked after her for many years. As a professional boxer, she settled in Marseille , where she still lives.

In 1999 she was the first French champion in light welterweight (then up to 63.5 kg body weight). She also won this title in 2000, 2001 and 2002. In April 2000 she took 3rd place in the light welterweight division at the 2nd Women's European Cup in Macon / France, a forerunner of the European Women's Championships. After a victory over Saida Gasanowa from Ukraine, she was defeated there in the semi-finals by the Swede Frida Wallberg just on points (3: 4). In May 2000 she won the light welterweight division by winning points over Tanja Robertsson from Canada in the final of the Feenix Cup in Turku / Finland .

At the 1st European Women's Boxing Championship in Saint-Amand-les-Eaux, France, in April 2001, she succeeded in taking revenge against Frida Wallberg in the quarter-finals. She clearly defeated them with 10: 6 points. In the semifinals she was point winner over Julia Nemzowa from Russia and in the final she won over Nikoletta Kavka from Greece by breaking off in the 3rd round and thus became European champion. In October 2001 Myriam Lamare repeated her tournament victory at the Feenix Cup in Turku. She defeated the Finn Terha Lukka just on points (15:14). At the 1st world championship in women's boxing in Scranton / USA she defeated Natalia Ostroumowa from Israel in the light welterweight division by breaking off in the 1st round and was the point winner over Donna Mancuso from Canada (19:12). In the final, she faced her old rival Frida Wallberg and just lost this fight with 10:12 points. That made her runner-up world champion.

In 2002 Myriam Lamare was the tournament winner at the Witch Cup in Pécs / Hungary . There she defeated the Danish Vinnie Skovgaard in the final by breaking off in the first round. At the 2nd World Cup for women in Antalya / Turkey , she was in excellent form and won the final against Yasemir Ustalar from Turkey . The bronze medals went to Saida Gasanowa and Daniela David from Romania . Unfortunately, the individual results of this championship are not known.

In her last year in the amateur camp, 2003, she won tournaments in Caorle / Italy (Torneo Italia) and in Poitiers . In the final fights she defeated Manuela Marcenario from Italy by breaking off in the 2nd round and Virginia Chaillou from France by breaking off in the 1st round. Between these two tournaments she had become European light welterweight champion for the second time in May 2003 in Pécs / Hungary. Myriam Lamare played a total of 45 fights in the amateur camp, of which she won 42.

Professional area

Even in the amateur camp, Myriam Lamare showed an extraordinary hardness for women. With this hardness of impact it was predestined for professional boxing. This was already shown by the first two fights as a professional boxer, which she contested on October 10, 2003 and November 14, 2003 in Marseille and Levallois-Perret . She won over Katalin Csehi from Hungary and Laura Stefanescu from Romania by technical knockout in the first round. After five more victories, she contested her first title fight on November 8, 2004 in the Palais Omnisport in Paris -Bercy / France. It was against Eliza Olson from the United States for the vacant WBA women's light welterweight title. Myriam Lamare also won early in her first two title defenses.
