Holly Rene Holm-Kirkpatrick (born October 17, 1981 in Albuquerque , New Mexico ) is an American mixed martial arts fighter and former boxer . She is considered one of the best female boxers of all time and won 21 world championship fights in three weight classes. In 2015, she beat Ronda Rousey in the battle for the UFC bantamweight title. She is the first martial artist ever to win world titles in boxing and mixed martial arts.

Family and private

Holly Holm is the daughter of Tammy Bredy and Roger Holm, a priest , which brought her the later battle name "The Preacher's Daughter". She has two older brothers, attended Manzano High School and then the University of New Mexico for a year . She also worked as a waitress and chiropractic assistant . Since April 2012 she has been married to Jeff Kirkpatrick, who is also from Albuquerque.

Kickboxing

Holly Holm started kickboxing at the age of 16 and had her first fight at the age of 18. In the amateurs, they remained undefeated in eight fights and won in 2001 in Kansas , the US National Championship Tournament of IKF welterweight. Between June 2002 and August 2003 she played three professional fights and won two of them.

Boxing

She made her debut as a professional boxer in January 2002 in Albuquerque. In the course of her career she defeated Christy Martin (balance sheet: 46-3) and Mia St. John (42-5) in 2005, Mary Jo Sanders (25-0) in 2008, and Myriam Lamare (16-2) and Duda in 2009 Yankovich (11-0). In December 2011 she lost to Anne Sophie Mathis (25-1) by knockout , but won the direct rematch in June 2012 unanimously on points. She ended her boxing career in May 2013 after beating Mary McGee (20-1).

Holly has won numerous titles in various weight classes, including the IBA , WIBA , GBU , IFBA , WBF , WBA and WBC welterweight championships. In total, she won 33 of 38 fights, nine of which by knockout, with three draws and two losses. She suffered her first defeat in 2004 by abandoning the fight due to a cut injury to Rita Turrisi.

According to the BoxRec database, Holly Holm is considered the most successful welterweight boxer of all time and has received numerous awards and honors. Among other things, she was named "Boxer of the Year" by Ring Magazine in 2005 and 2006, and in 2013 she was accepted into the New Mexico Boxing Hall of Fame .

Mixed martial arts

During her boxing career, she played her first MMA fight in March 2011 and only switched to MMA after two more fights. She won three fights with Fresquez Productions , one with Bellator MMA and three with the LFC , with six of her wins by leg, body or head kicks and one by unanimous scoring. In her last of these fights she won the LFC bantamweight championship by TKo against the Brazilian Juliana Werner (7-3).

She signed a contract with the UFC in July 2014 and won on points against Raquel Pennington and Marion Reneau in February and July 2015, respectively. In November 2015 she fought as a clear underdog at UFC 193 in Melbourne against Ronda Rousey (12-0) for the UFC Bantamweight World Championship. Holly Holm clearly dominated the fight, however, defeating Rousey with a head kick in the second round. With 56,214 spectators on site, it was also the most popular UFC event in history. At the World MMA Awards in February 2016, Holm was honored in the categories “Fighter of the Year”, “Breakthrough of the Year”, “Knockout of the Year” and “Surprise of the Year”.

In March 2016, she lost her first title defense by a "rear naked choke" in the fifth round against Miesha Tate (17-5). In July 2016 she lost on points to Walentyna Shevchenko (12-2) and in February 2017 on points to Germaine de Randamie (6-3). Due to alleged unsportsmanlike conduct by Randamie, Holm appealed to the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) after the fight , which, however, after viewing the video material, could not find a rule violation and confirmed the fight result.

At UFC Fight Night 111 in June 2017, she defeated Bethe Correia (10-2) by knockout in the third round. Against Cristiane Justino she lost in December 2017, in the main fight of UFC 219, on points.
