Frédéric-Nicolas-Fridolin Reynold (born October 20, 1820 in Freiburg im Üechtland ; † January 6, 1898 ibid) was a Swiss politician and State Chancellor of the Canton of Friborg .

Life

His parents were Emmanuel Reynold, from a family belonging to the privileged citizens of the city of Freiburg , and Marie-Madeleine nee. Gasser. His grandfather and father embarked on an officer career in France . His brother Philippe (1812–1887) was a lawyer and cantonal judge (1857–1879). He was one of the founders of the liberal-conservative newspaper Le Bien public.

After attending the college of St. Michael (1833-1840) and the college of St. Urban (LU), Fridolin Reynold studied law in Heidelberg and in 1842 at the law academy in Freiburg with Marcellin Bussard.

In 1843 he was deputy clerk of the Justice Council and from 1844 to November 1847 clerk of the Council of the Interior. During the radical attempted insurrection on January 6, 1847, the State Council sent him to Valais to seek support from the local government. His sleigh ride ended in Le Bry , where he came across an armed group of radicals from Bulle who were marching to Freiburg. With an arm injured, he spent six weeks in the hospital. During the Sonderbund War he served as a second lieutenant in a Landwehr battalion.

Sidelined by the radical regime, he was appointed Vice Chancellor on January 20, 1857 and Chancellor of State on September 5, 1857 as the successor to Christoph Marro ; he held this office until May 5, 1863. He was distinguished by his writing skills and successfully ran the State Chancellery, but preferred to resign for health reasons rather than to die in office, as happened to his three successors.

A few years later, Fridolin Reynold returned to public life. He was a councilor for the city of Freiburg (1868–1874), president of the municipal poor chamber and member of the municipal school, finance and building commission. At the cantonal level he was a member of the tax commission (1869), administrator, delegate and member of the commission for the upper Jura waters correction (1873–1879) and a member of the study commission (1873).
