Life

Brepoels studied architecture at the Provinciaal Hoger Architectuur Instituut te Hasselt (PHAI) and graduated in 1978. She then worked as a freelance architect until 1993.

In 1982 Brepoels was appointed lay judge in Bilzen and from 1988 to 2001 was a member of the party council and the party board of the Volksunie , which in 2001 split into the two successor parties Nieuw-Vlaamse Alliantie and Spirit . In 2001, she was appointed deputy party leader of the N-VA and held this position until December 2006. Since March 2008 she has been Secretary General of the N-VA and also a member of the Council of the N-VA Limburg.

In addition, Brepoels was a member of the Limburg Provincial Council from 1985 to 1987 and a member of the Flemish Parliament from 1987 to 1991 . At the same time she was a member of the Belgian Chamber of Deputies from 1987 to 1991 and from 1999 to 2003 and chairman of the parliamentary group from 2000 to 2003.

In June 2004 Brepoels was elected to the European Parliament and confirmed in office in the 2009 European elections . She is a member of the Greens / EFA group , the committees on human rights and the environment, public health and food safety and the delegation for relations with the Mashreq countries.

In the municipal council elections in 2012, Brepoels ran as the top candidate of the N-VA. Although the list was only the second strongest force behind the CD&V , the N-VA was able to form a government with the Open VLD and a local party. Brepoels has been mayor of Bilzen since January 1st, 2013. She then resigned her mandate in the European Parliament.
