Friedemann Schaarschmidt

Johannes Friedemann Schaarschmidt (born January 18, 1934 - † October 15, 2005 in Wittenbeck, Kühlungsborn ) was a German paleobotanist and paleynologist .

Life

Schaarschmidt received his doctorate in Frankfurt in 1962 ( Sporen und Hystrichophaerideen from the Zechstein von Büdingen in the Wetterau ). From 1966 (as the successor of his teacher Richard Kräusel ) until his retirement in 1996 he was head of the department for palaeobotany and professor at the Senckenberg Museum and Institute. His successor was Volker Wilde .

He was one of the founders and long-time chairman of the working group for paleobotany and palynology .
