Peace of Boves

The Peace of Boves of July 1185 was a treaty between the French King Philip II August and Count Philip I of Flanders . It is also called the Peace of Amiens . It was closed in Boves on the Somme .

The treaty ended the conflict between the king and the count over the estate of Mabile of Vermandois , the wife of Count Philip. This involved in particular the Artois property , which was claimed by both the Count and Mabiles' sister Eleanor.

Since Eleanor was married to Mathieu de Beaumont, the king's chamberlain, Philipp August thought it promising to stand up for his rights.

Through the treaty, France won the county of Amiens and the county of Montdidier , the castle lords (châtellenies) Roye and Thourotte , as well as the entitlement to the Artois, which Philip had occupied in August 1191 , after the death of Philip of Flanders and until the peace of Péronne in Year 1200 retained.
