The Treaty of Vienna in 1261 was on 31 March 1261 between the kings Ottokar II. Of Bohemia and Bela IV. Of Hungary and his son Stephen V closed.

prehistory

In the Peace of Ofen in 1254, Béla had acquired a large part of Styria , while the Duchy of Austria fell to Ottokar. In Styria there was an uprising of the Styrian nobility, in the course of which the Hungarian governor appointed by Béla was expelled. Then Stephan became Duke of Styria. His ducal dignity ended when Ottokar attacked Styria and the Bohemian king, victorious in the Battle of Kressenbrunn (Groißenbrunn) in 1260, demanded that Béla renounce his western territories.

Results

In the Peace of Vienna, Hungary renounced the Duchy of Styria and parts of today's Slovakia on the Moravian border. In addition, Hungary entered into an alliance with Ottokar. In order to confirm this agreement, Ottokar married the granddaughter Bélas Kunigunde von Halitsch .
