The peace demonstration in Bonn's Hofgarten on October 22, 1983 was one of several events organized by the peace movement . The aim was to prevent the implementation of the NATO double resolution .

About 150,000 protesters formed a human chain around the government district. Around 500,000 people formed a human star that connected the embassy buildings of the five nuclear powers. In the courtyard spoke, among other things Willy Brandt to protest against the policies of Helmut Schmidt and Helmut Kohl to take a stand: "We do not need in Germany more funds for mass destruction, we need less."

In Baden-Württemberg a human chain was formed from Stuttgart to Neu-Ulm on the same day . Further events took place in Hamburg (around 400,000 participants), Berlin , Rome , Vienna , Stockholm , London and other cities. In Germany alone, more than a million people were mobilized.
