The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Peace is a modern church building with a 29 meter high bell tower in Trappenkamp in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein .

history

Trappenkamp was part of the Bornhöved parish until 1969 and became an independent parish only two years after the church was completed with the election of a church council on June 1st and after approval by the regional church office.

Building

An architectural competition was announced in 1964 for the construction of the church, which was won by the architect Eberhard Schultz. After the contract was awarded on September 11, 1964, more than 10 months passed before construction actually began on August 24, 1965. Construction was carried out by the Dittmer company from Neumünster; could not take over.

On the day the foundation stone was laid on November 7, 1965, the church was given the name Friedenskirche , which, according to tradition, was chosen because the Trappenkamp community emerged from the aftermath of the Second World War . After the topping-out ceremony on June 16, 1966, when the shell was completed and the roof structure was poured in reinforced concrete, the Trappenkamp construction company Kliem & Günther put the wooden cladding on the roof, which was then covered with sheet copper. On Pentecost Sunday 1967 the bishop for Holstein, Dr. Friedrich Hübner , the new Friedenskirche.

Furnishing

organ

In May 1967 an organ fund was set up, which was able to collect around 15,000 D-Marks in donations by 1970, so that the new organ could be put out to tender. On December 17, 1972, the new organ of the Klaus Becker company was inaugurated in a church service .

crucifix

During the divine service on Whit Sunday 1985, the 20,000 D-Mark bronze crucifix donated by the company Freitag Electronic from Trappenkamp was inaugurated. The three and a half meter high expressionist crucifix with a weight of around 250 kilograms was cast in the existing mold by the Austrian artist Alexander Silveri (1910–1986). The original made of cast steel can be found in the Franciscan Church in Graz together with other works by the artist .

Bells

The bells were cast in Sinn on May 6, 1966 in the Rincker bell and art foundry . The three bells received the following inscriptions:

  • big bell: "O country, hear the word of the Lord."
  • middle bell: "Glory to God on high and peace on earth."
  • little bell: "Make peace in your gates."

On December 2, 1966, the three new bells were passed in a festive procession from the entrance to the church and installed there. The 18-meter-high tower was prefabricated next to the church and was then placed on the 11-meter-high nave with the mobile crane with the bells.
