The Friedenskirche in Uffeln , a district of Vlotho in the Herford district , North Rhine-Westphalia , was until the end of 2012 the church of the Evangelical Lutheran Parish Uffeln, which belongs to the Vlotho parish of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia .

history

The church building was built in 1959 by the political community of Uffeln as a cemetery chapel on the then newly established cemetery . Church services were also held there - initially monthly .

On January 1, 1973, a parish with its own parish was created for Uffeln within the parish of Holtrup , the center of which was the cemetery chapel. In 1986 it was named "Friedenskirche".

Since the incorporation of Uffeln by the Bielefeld law in 1973, the church building has been the property of the city of Vlotho. The Uffeln parish, which has been independent since 2007, rented the building. As of December 31, 2012, the lease was terminated for cost reasons. The building still bears the name "Friedenskirche" and is used as a cemetery chapel as before.

As a temporary solution, the parish initially used the branch of a drugstore discounter on Mindener Straße in Uffeln for church services. This room was called the shop church . In Germany, the term has been used since the 1960s to designate facilities based on the American model, often housed in empty shops, which, as part of efforts to reform church life, serve various church offers, social engagement and theological discussion. In the middle of 2013 the parish decided to expand its previous parish hall into a parish center with a prayer room. On May 5, 2014 it was named “Ev. Zacchaeus Community Center ”inaugurated.
