Friedenskirche (Bern)
The Reformed Church of Peace is located at Friedensstrasse 9 in the Mattenhof district of the city of Bern .
history
It was built by Karl Indermühle from 1918 to 1920 and inaugurated on November 21, 1920. It was given its name to commemorate the peace treaty after the First World War . The Indermühle project, which won a prize in 1915, had previously been called "Landmark".
The Friedenskirche crowns a hill, visible from afar, which until the middle of the 19th century was called Pastetenhubel (pastry hill ) due to its shape and then Vejelihubel (violet hill ). As it was assumed that once there was a shrine of the Germanic god Balder , a street on this hill was named Balderstrasse in 1914 . In 1917, the remains of graves were found during the construction of the church, but could not be dated.
Above the portal, to which a monumental flight of steps leads, is a quote from Isaiah 32:17 : "The fruit of righteousness will be peace". Around the neoclassical church building was built between 1916 and 1930 in the local style .
organ
The organ of the Friedenskirche was built in 1970 by the organ building company Theodor Kuhn AG. The slider chests -instrument has 46 registers on three manual stations and pedal. The action actions are mechanical, the stop actions are electro-pneumatic.
