Friedenskirche Wildenheid

The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Peace in Wildenheid , Upper Franconia , a district of Neustadt near Coburg in the Coburg district , was inaugurated in 1955. The American action “Wooden Church Crusade” supported the construction of the church financially.

history

Wildenheid belonged to the Neustadt parish for centuries. With the help of the Wooden Church Crusade Incorporation in Burlington / Wisconsin , the wish of the Wildenheider and Meilschnitzer to have their own place of worship was realized. The non-denominational action Wooden Church Crusade (crusade for churches made of wood) was founded in 1950 by the former German diplomat Henning von Royk-Lewinski , who went to the USA after 1945. The mill owner Richard A. Kinzer acted as president. The aim of the organization was to collect donations in order to build 48 simple churches (one for each American state) along the inner-German border as a spiritual "protective wall against communism".

The church in Wildenheid was built in 1954/55 about 400 meters from the inner-German border under the construction management of the Coburg architect Reinhard Claaßen as a stone building, because it was cheaper than a wooden structure. The Wooden Church Crusade campaign carried the majority of the construction costs of DM 120,000. The Wildenheider Friedenskirche was inaugurated on October 16, 1955. In 1961 the Neustadt subsidiary parish was elevated to an independent parish and, after the construction of a rectory in 1963, the first pastor was appointed. In the 1960s, Catholic masses were also celebrated in the church. In 1987 the church was extensively renovated.

Building description

inner space

The church building is a simple, rectangular hall with a gable roof and gable turret . The only decoration of the simply designed interior is a colored, hand-painted altar window by the painter Markus von Gosen from Prien am Chiemsee, which cost 3200 DM. In the center of the window is the risen Christ as the ruler and judge of the world. Above the rectangular entrance portal is a keystone with the inscription, a quote from the letter to the Ephesians (Eph 2:14), "He is our peace".

A small organ with two manuals , a pedal and 700 pipes stands on a single-storey gallery in the west . The organ building company Walcker from Ludwigsburg installed the instrument in 1959.

In the gable tab there are three donated bells that were cast in 1955 at the Rincker bell foundry in the Hessian sense for 4297 DM. The smallest bell bears the inscription "I LET PEACE YOU + I GIVE YOU PEACE", the middle bell "JESUS CHRIST YESTERDAY AND TODAY AND THE SAME IN ETERNITY" and the large bell "HONOR TO GOD ONLY".
