Villa Lindenhof with the "peace rooms"

The Peace Museum Lindau (today's name: " Friedensraum " ) in Lindau (Lake Constance) is a peace museum of the diocese of Augsburg of the Pax Christi . In 1980 the Peace Museum was founded on the initiative of the architect and Pax-christi member Thomas Wechs from Augsburg. After a phase of reorientation, the peace rooms - museum in motion opened their doors in 2001 . The new concept of the Peace Museum was developed together with the management team and the Austrian artist Ruth Gschwendtner-Wölfle. The sponsor is the international Catholic peace movement Pax christi of the Diocesan Association of Augsburg.

Local history

The Peace Museum is located in the east wing of Villa Lindenhof in Lindau Bad-Schachen. The villa is located in the midst of an English garden from the 19th century. The architect Franz Jakob Kreuter designed the Villa Lindenhof on behalf of the Lindau merchant Friedrich Gruber , which became the model for other villas on the shores of Lake Constance. Pompeian frescoes decorate the premises. Maximilian Friedrich Weyhe , professor of botany in Düsseldorf, was commissioned to design the park . The Lindau Peace Trail, designed by Barbara and Dietmar Stoller, leads from the museum in the Villa Lindenhof in Bad Schachen to the island of Lindau to places of peace and strife.
