Frieder Gebhardt (born October 19, 1949 in Wiesbaden ) is a German politician ( SPD ). From July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2020, he was mayor of the city of Langen in the Offenbach district , Hesse .

Life

Gebhardt completed an apprenticeship at the Hessian Land Survey Office from 1966 to 1969. After he had finished this, he did his basic military service in the Bundeswehr until 1971. He then did an engineering degree in cartography at the Technical University of Applied Sciences in Berlin, which he finished in 1974 as the best of his year. He then worked until 1976 as an employee in the area of ​​urban planning at the planning community in Berlin. He then worked for a year at the Ruhr coal district settlement association, after which he ran his own engineering office until 1982. From 1982 to 1992 he was head of the cartography department at the Justus Perthes Geographical Publishing Company in Darmstadt, then until 1995 at Justus Perthes Verlag Gotha GmbH in Gotha. Afterwards, he took part in a senior trainee program in the field of "Leadership Techniques for Managers" at the IDB Frankfurt. From 1996 to 2008 he was managing director of the AWO in Langen.

From 1989 Gebhardt, who is a member of the SPD, was represented in the city council of Langen. In 1992 and 1993 he was chairman of the environmental protection committee. From 1996 to 2006 he was deputy parliamentary group chairman and a member of various committees for the SPD. In 2006 Gebhardt became an honorary city councilor in the city administration of Langen. Since 2006 he has been deputy chairman of the SPD local association in Langen. Since July 1, 2008, Frieder Gebhardt has been mayor of the city of Langen in the Offenbach district , Hesse . He prevailed in the second ballot with 64% of the valid votes against the CDU candidate Berthold Matyschok. On February 16, 2014 Gebhardt was confirmed in office for a further six years; the term of office begins on July 1, 2014. In the run-off election, Gebhardt prevailed with 49 votes ahead (50.2 percent) against Jan Werner (non-party), after he had been well behind in the first ballot. After he announced in April 2019 that he would no longer be available for another term, he resigned from office on June 30, 2020.
