Friedhelm Schneider

Friedhelm Schneider (born January 16, 1953 ) is a former German soccer player. He played with Chemie Leipzig and Chemie Böhlen in the 1970s and 1980s in the GDR Oberliga , the top division of GDR football . He is also a two-time GDR junior national player.

Athletic career

As a player for 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig , Friedhelm Schneider played two international matches with the GDR junior national team at the beginning of the 1970/71 football season , in which he was used as a midfielder. For the 1971/72 season he moved to local rivals BSG Chemie Leipzig in the second-rate GDR league. There he made his point game debut on matchday 5 and finally brought it to ten point games and one goal. As a season winner, BSG Chemie took part in the promotion round to the upper league, in which they qualified for the GDR elite league. Of the eight promotion games, Schneider played seven games. In his first league season in 1972/73 he was used in 15 point games mainly in midfield. 1973/74 he was used from the start in the league and played up to the 14th matchday all the matches in which he also scored his first three league goals. In the remaining second round games he was used in two league games. Chemie Leipzig rose again from the league at the end of the season. In the GDR league season 1974/75 he was only used on the 14th game day and was only called up in three point games (1 goal). Chemistry managed to return to the league, Schneider was intended for the league squad, but was not used.

For the 1976/77 season Schneider moved to the GDR league club Chemie Böhlen. He helped him with 18 game appearances (out of 22), two goals and participation in seven promotion games (out of 8) as well as two more goals for promotion to the league. There he came in the 1977/76 season as a midfielder in all 26 point games for use and was successful with three goals. So he also had a significant share in staying up. With 21 participations in league games and again three goals Schneider was also a regular in 1978/79, but could not save Böhlen from relegation. Although for the East German league season 1979/80 from Chemie Bohlen for the 1st team in the squad, he was there until the end of the first half of the game in a league game.

Thereupon Schneider returned to Chemie Leipzig, whose team had been promoted to the league again for the 1979/80 season. Of the remaining 13 games in the second half of the season, Schneider played ten games, but remained goalless and was relegated to Leipzig for the second time after 1974. He was back in the GDR league again and made twelve league appearances in 1980/81 (4 goals). It was not enough to rise again, and in the GDR league season 1981/82 Schneider only played in the first half of the season for Chemie Leipzig, where he was used in all eleven league games and scored two goals.

In the second half of the 1981/82 season he played six GDR league games (1 goal), again with Chemie Böhlen in the squad. With the team he again reached the league promotion round, in which he again played seven of the eight games and helped Bohlen for the second time to rise to the league. 1982/83 Schneider went into his sixth league season. At Chemie Böhlen he was mainly used in midfield in 21 of the 26 point games and scored three goals. As in 1979/80, Schneider's team was only able to stay in the top division for one season. Schneider played with Chemie Böhlen two seasons in the GDR league, where he completed 21 of the 22 point games in 1983/84 and scored the most goals of the season in the men's area with six goals. In 1984/85 he was only used eleven of 34 league games, did not score any goals and then ended his career in higher-class football as a 32-year-old.
