Friedrich-Franz Wellingerhof (born March 18, 1917 in Rostock ; † September 7, 1985 in Schwerin ) was youth pastor and superintendent of the Schwerin church district.

Life

Wellingerhof was born the son of a deacon in Rostock and also attended school there, graduated from high school in 1936 and studied theology at the universities of Rostock and Tübingen . From 1939 to 1945 he was a medic on the Eastern Front and was taken prisoner by the Americans in Lüneburg .

After his release in 1946 he was a trainer for deacons and head of student work at the Stephansstift in Hanover . In 1946 he went black across the border into the former Soviet zone and from 1946 to 1956 he was regional youth pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran regional church of Mecklenburg with an official seat in Schwerin. During his tenure, Wellingerhof won a large number of young congregation members to serve in the Lutheran Church in Mecklenburg. His work was characterized by a close unity of evangelism and solid, imaginative youth work. He promoted democratic structures in church youth work by setting up a youth convention in the regional church. The young community was one of the ruling Marxist-Leninist SED as a hostile and threatening factor in the social development in the GDR.

Wellingerhof, known as “PW” for short as a state youth pastor, had a talent for youth work that experienced a strong upswing under his direction - with state youth Sundays, set-up times during the holidays and preaching theater groups. His first regional youth Sunday in 1949 already had 4,000 visitors. The village mission weeks in winter were formative for younger pastors.

Wellingerhof was described in 1978 by Schwerin functionaries of the SED as an "anti-socialist force".

From 1956 Wellingerhof was parish pastor in Gnoien for seven years and then pastor at St. Paul in Schwerin for ten years . Most recently he was state superintendent of the Schwerin church district for ten years as the successor to Friedrich Wilhelm Gasse .
