Friedrich-Wilhelm Bauer

Friedrich-Wilhelm Bauer (born June 20, 1932 in Berlin ; † April 30, 2019 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German mathematician . From 1971 to 1997 he was professor at the Institute for Algebra and Geometry at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt .

He received his doctorate in 1955 from Ewald Burger in Frankfurt ( on the dimensional theory of compacts in marginal numbers ). He also completed his habilitation in 1959 at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt. Between his doctorate and his appointment as professor in Frankfurt, he also carried out teaching and research activities in the USA, the former USSR and at the Free University of Berlin. His research focus was on algebraic topology.

He had been a CDU member since 1959 and was a member of the city council in Frankfurt am Main from 1965 to 1993.

He died after a long illness on April 30, 2019 in Frankfurt am Main.
