Friedrich Adolf Borsdorf (born December 23, 1854 in Dittmannsdorf , Saxony, † April 15, 1923 in London ) was a German horn player .

Life

Friedrich Adolf Borsdorf was the son of a farmer and pupil of Oskar Franz . He has been solo horn in various major orchestras, including Sir Henry Woods Queen’s Hall , the London Symphony Orchestra , the London Philharmonic Orchestra , the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden ( London ) and the English National Opera Orchestra. Borsdorf was also a member of “God's Own Horn Quartet”.

In addition to his solo activities, he was Professor of Horn at the Royal College of Music from 1882 to 1923 and at the Royal Academy of Music from 1897 to 1923 . In this activity he revolutionized the technique of playing the horn in England. Several of Borsdorf's over 60 students later became famous horn players, including Alfred Brain and Aubrey Brain as well as Frank Probyn . His sons and students Emil Borsdorf , Oskar Borsdorf and Francis Bradley also became famous horn players. Francis changed his last name so as not to be confused with father or any of his brothers. Also, German names weren't particularly good at promoting your career during his time in England.

Together with 40 other musicians, Friedrich Adolf Borsdorf was one of the founding members of the London Symphony Orchestra in 1904 .
