Friedrich Auffarth

Friedrich "Fritz" Auffarth (born January 22, 1918 in Eschwege ; † August 17, 2004 ), German lawyer and labor law scholar, was a judge at the Federal Labor Court from 1963 to 1986 , most recently as its vice-president.

Auffarth was born in Eschwege . In 1940 he passed the first state examination in Munich . After military service and imprisonment, he was able to continue his training in 1946 and passed the second state examination in Frankfurt am Main in 1949 . In 1948 he received his doctorate from the University of Marburg .

First, Auffarth joined the higher judicial service in the state of Hesse and worked as a judge in Kassel from 1950 to 1954. He was then seconded to the Federal Labor Court as a research assistant until 1959, interrupted by a position as a speaker at the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. From 1959 to 1962, Auffarth was a member of the Hessian Administrative Court until he was appointed judge at the Federal Labor Court in 1963. In 1977 Auffarth was promoted to presiding judge of the Sixth Senate at the Federal Labor Court and in 1980 was appointed vice-president of that court. When Auffarth reached the age limit, he retired in 1986.

In addition to his judicial work, Auffarth was also scientifically involved and in 1968 took on a lectureship for civil law and labor law at the Technical University of Braunschweig . In 1975 he was appointed honorary professor there.

Because of his great services as a scientist in labor law and labor jurisdiction , he was awarded the Great Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1986.
