Friedrich August Saebelmann

Friedrich August Saebelmann (born  September 26, 1851 in Nuia, today the city of Karksi-Nuia , Estonia , †  March 7, 1911 in Paistu ) was an Estonian composer . Friedrich August Saebelmann is the younger brother of the Estonian composer Aleksander Kunileid-Saebelmann (1845–1875).

Friedrich August Saebelmann received his music education at the well-known teacher seminar of Jānis Cimze in the Livonian Walk (Estonian Valga ). In 1871 he completed the seminar. Because of financial difficulties, Saebelmann went to Saint Petersburg with his brother . There he found employment as a German teacher.

In 1874/75 Saebelmann was the first Estonian to study at the St. Petersburg Conservatory . He then moved back to his home country and worked there as a schoolmaster. From 1880 Saebelmann was employed as a teacher, choirmaster and organist in the parish of Paistu. He also performed as a piano, organ and cello soloist in Viljandi County .

Saebelmann became known through his compositions for choirs such as Ellerhein , Palve , Kevade noorus and Kaunimad laulud as well as through his songs for solo singing.
