Friedrich August Wilhelm von Minckwitz

Friedrich August Wilhelm von Minckwitz (born December 26, 1753 , † February 18, 1823 in Altenburg ) was a ducal-saxony-gotha-altenburg real secret council , minister and chief tax director.

Life

He came from the Falkenhainer line of the von Minckwitz family and was the son of Carl Wilhelm von Minckwitz auf Zöpen (born March 19, 1714 - November 1786) and his wife Johanna Friederika nee von Brandenstein (* July 1, 1732; † 8. May 1769).

Like many of his family members, Friedrich August Wilhelm von Minckwitz embarked on an administrative career in the service of the Wettins . In 1776 he became a member of the government and rose at the court of the Duke of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg up to the real secret council, minister and chief tax director. His places of activity were both Gotha and Altenburg. He conducted extensive correspondence, including with Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in Weimar .

The following three sons emerged from the inappropriate marriage to Johanna Christina nee Hoffmann:

  • Johannes von Minckwitz (born February 1, 1787 in Altenburg, † March 18, 1857 in Dresden). He was the Royal Saxon Privy Councilor, Major General and Undersecretary of State in Dresden, most recently Royal Saxon Foreign Minister and Lieutenant General.
  • Herrmann von Minckwitz (* December 12, 1790 in Altenburg; † February 15, 1871 in Ohrdruf). He was the ducal Saxon chamberlain and forester in Georgenthal.
  • Otto von Minckwitz (born June 14, 1795 in Altenburg; † November 23, 1868 in Altenburg), ducal Saxon chamberlain, councilor and consistorial councilor in Altenburg. Later he was chamberlain, regional, judicial and consistorial councilor.
