Johannes von Minckwitz (born February 1, 1787 in Altenburg , † March 18, 1857 in Dresden ) was a royal Saxon secret council , minister of state, envoy extraordinary, adjutant general to the king and lieutenant general .

Johannes came from the Falkenhainer line of the von Minckwitz family . He was the son of the Privy Councilor Friedrich August Wilhelm von Minckwitz from the royal seat of Altenburg, where he spent his childhood and youth. Carl Wilhelm von Minckwitz auf Zöpen (1714–1786) and his wife Johanna Friederika, née von Brandenstein (1732–1769) were his paternal grandparents. His mother was the commoner Johanna Christina, née Hoffmann, who had entered into an inappropriate marriage with his father, from which further siblings emerged. Herrmann von Minckwitz (1790–1871) was ducal Saxon chamberlain and forester in Georgenthal and Otto von Minckwitz (1795–1868), ducal Saxon chamberlain, government and consistorial councilor in Altenburg, later he was chamberlain, state judicial and consistorial councilor .

Career

Like many of his family members, Johannes von Minckwitz embarked on an administrative career in the service of the Wettins , but also switched to the military. On the mediation of his father, Minckwitz at the court in Dresden became the Privy Councilor of the King of Saxony and initially Undersecretary of State, later envoy (including in Berlin and Hanover) and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs (1831 to 1835) and of the Royal House (1833 to 1835). He was promoted to lieutenant general in the Saxon Army .

On October 19, 1816, he married Amalie, Baroness Vitzthum von Egersberg, who was born in Wissembourg (Alsace) on February 27, 1788 . She died at the age of 36 on August 20, 1824. The marriage had three children:

  • Friedrich August von Minckwitz (born September 8, 1817 in Berlin, † March 25, 1892 in Dresden). From 1840 to 1844 Lieutenant Colonel of the Royal Saxon Army, from 1844 Royal Saxon Chamberlain and Master of Ceremonies, from 1855 Chamberlain of the Saxon Queen Amalie , 1867 Royal Saxon Chamberlain and Chief Steward of the Queen's Court.   • Karl Hildebrand August Arthur von Minckwitz (* 1819 in; † 1842 in Dresden). Royal Saxon officer, from 1839 to 1842 as a lieutenant in the Neustadt barracks.
  • Maximilian von Minckwitz (born June 19, 1823 in Dresden, † October 2, 1901 in Dresden). Initially royal Saxon officer, 1844 lieutenant, 1851 first lieutenant, later grand ducal Saxon chamberlain, from 1879 to 1898 diplomat in Turin with the rank and title of a real secret council.

His second marriage to Countess Adolphine von der Schulenburg on November 27, 1826 resulted in three children:

  • Marie von Minckwitz (* 1827 in Dresden, † 1907 in Dresden). From 1859 to 1870 court lady of the Saxon Crown Princess Carola
  • Hans Rudolph von Minckwitz (* 1830 in Dresden, † 1904 in Dresden). Royal Saxon officer, in 1865 with the rank of first lieutenant in the Saxon cavalry regiment.
  • Benno Hermann von Minckwitz (* 1838 in Dresden; † 1870), royal Saxon officer, 1860 lieutenant 1867 first lieutenant, died in the Franco-Prussian War.
