Carmelo's Jazz Club

Carmelo's Jazz Club was a jazz club in Los Angeles , which existed from 1960 until the mid-1980s.

Carmelo's Jazz Club was located in Sherman Oaks , a suburb of Los Angeles in the south of the San Fernando Valley , which was a center of Italian immigrants; There were numerous Italian restaurants there, which also offered opportunities for jazz musicians to perform. These were Barone’s (which opened in Sherman Oaks in 1945), Vitello’s (which opened in Studio City in the 1960s ), and Carmelo’s , which opened in 1960. The club was owned by Chuck and Carmelo Piscitello. Initially, the venue had around 100 seats before it was expanded to double its size shortly before its final closure.

There occurred in the early 1980s u. a. the bands of Bill Berry , Les DeMerle , Bob Florence , Biff Hannon , Peter Herbolzheimer , Don Menza , Jack Nimitz , Ruth Price , Jack Sheldon and Snooky Young . From 1980 to 1984 recordings of the performances of Shelly Manne , Sal Nistico , Pat Britt , Don Menza ( Hip Pocket ), Mat Marucci ( Extensity ), Terry Gibbs / Buddy DeFranco ( Air Mail Special ) and the Blue Wisp Big Band ( Rollin 'with Von Ohlen and Live at Carmelo's , Sea Breeze Jazz 1984).
