Ruth Price

Ruth Price (born April 27, 1938 ) is an American jazz singer .

Ruth Price was originally a dancer; In 1952 she completed her dance training. In 1954 she sang in Charlie Ventura's orchestra; later she worked as a dancer and singer in Philadelphia and New York City ; In 1955 recordings were made for Roost Records with the band of jazz guitarist Johnny Smith . In 1957 she moved to Hollywood ; there, among other things, her album Ruth Price with Shelly Manne at the Manne-Hole was created , on which, in addition to Manne, his former band of Richie Kamuca , Conte Candoli , Russ Freeman and Chuck Berghofer participated. In 1964/65 she went on tour with Harry James' band . She later worked as an assistant professor at UCLA in the Department of Ethnic Music. From the 1990s she ran the Jazz Bakery jazz club in Culver City , California .
