Roy Powell

Roy Powell (* 2. October 1965 in Langham , Rutland ) is a British jazz - pianist , organist and composer .

Powell grew up in Canada and studied music in Manchester ; he became known through his first album A Big Sky , which was released in 1994. Powell works mainly with his own formations in Scandinavia and played a. a. with Anthony Braxton , Terje Rypdal , Art Farmer , Eddie Daniels , Arild Andersen and Vince Mendoza . He also works as an organist with his trio Blue Sonic Fuel with Staffan William-Olsson and Andreas Bye . In 1998 the bassist Arild Andersen ( North by Northwest ) played in his quartet ; In 2003 he played in a trio with bassist Terje Gewelt and drummer Jerle Vespestad ( Solace ).

His composition "Bow Out" was used by the American choreographer Val Caniparoli for a ballet ( Bow Out ) with the ballet companies of Oakland , Richmond , Cincinnati and Florida .
