Friedrich Bäßmann

Friedrich Bäßmann (* 1882 in Uetzingen ; † June 23, 1953 in Walsrode ) was a German animal breeding scientist .

Life

Friedrich Bäßmann studied agriculture at the Agricultural University Bonn-Poppelsdorf , the Agricultural University Berlin and the University of Jena . In 1902 he became a member of the Corps Agraria Bonn and in 1905 of the Corps Agronomia Jena, meanwhile Landsmannschaft Cimbria Jenensis Jena . After completing his studies and obtaining a doctorate as a Dr. phil. In 1908 he became head of the district animal inspection in Cottbus . In 1914 he entered the service of the Ministry of Agriculture and with the outbreak of World War I did military service in the War Food Office. From 1922 to 1933 he was managing director of the animal breeding department of the German Agricultural Society (DLG). After the re-establishment of the DLG after the Second World War in 1947, he was again managing director of this department until 1949.

Bäßmann promoted breeders' associations and expanded the basis for animal shows with traveling exhibitions. His particular merit was the establishment of the German Cattle Performance Book. His commitment was to improve the zootechnical performance evaluation.

The animal breeding scientist Wilhelm Bäßmann was his brother.
