Wilhelm Bäßmann

Wilhelm Bäßmann (born March 21, 1887 in Uetzingen , † June 22, 1967 in Walsrode ) was a German animal breeding scientist .

Life

Wilhelm Bäßmann studied agriculture at the University of Jena . In 1909 he became a member of the Corps Agronomia Jena. After completing his studies with a diploma, he became clerk for sheep and pig breeding in 1912/13 and in 1913 consultant for pig breeding in the Chamber of Agriculture of the Province of Brandenburg. He held the office until the end of the Second World War . In addition, from 1913 to 1949 he was the managing director of the Brandenburg pig breeders' association, which had emerged from the state association of Kurmärkischer pig breeders.

Bäßmann promoted the rational organization and working methods of the German pig breeders' associations. He is regarded as a pioneer of scheduled breeding performance controls, an improved training system and fattening performance tests.

The animal breeding scientist Friedrich Bäßmann was his brother.
