The three- cushion world cup 2001/5 was the fifth and final UMB / BWA world cup tournament in the sixteenth year of the three-cushion world cup. The tournament took place from 11 to 16 December 2001 in this discipline of carom billiards in Oosterhout . It was the tenth three-cushion World Cup tournament in Oosterhout.
history
In the fight for the overall World Cup 2000/2001 it got exciting again in Oosterhout. In the round of 16, Frédéric Caudron had match point with a 2-1 set lead. Caudron could not convert him but Blomdahl won with 3: 2 sets. In the quarterfinals he was also 1: 2 behind against Tayfun Taşdemir . Here, too, he turned the match in his favor. Since Dick Jaspers was eliminated in the round of 16 against Marco Zanetti , Blomdahl would be enough to make it to the final to win the title. He did that with a sure win against Richard Bitalis in the semifinals. This meant that Semih Saygıner had no chance of winning the title despite reaching the final. With this, Blomdahl won his 31st World Cup victory and his eighth overall World Cup title. Christian Rudolph played a good tournament . He could achieve the best average (GD) and the best individual average (BED). Since only two World Cups were played in 2000, the five tournaments from 2001 were part of the overall World Cup. All tournaments in 2001 were organized by the BWA.
Tournament mode
The World Cup tournament was played as an open tournament. From a pre-qualification with a maximum of 144 participants, 12 participants qualify for the 1/16 finals. The main tournament is played with 32 participants. There are 14 participants. The seeded participants are recruited from the best 14 players in the current world rankings. The whole tournament is played in the knockout system with three winning sets of 15 points each.
In the event of a tie, the following order will be applied:
MP = match points
SV = rate ratio
GD = general average
HS = maximum series

^ Heinrich Weingartner: Billiards . No. 141 . Vienna January 2002, p. 18-23 .
The three-cushion World Cup was organized by the founding association, the "
Billiards Worldcup Association " (BWA) until 1998 . Disputes between the BWA and the world association
Union Mondiale de Billard (UMB) led to parallel tournaments between 1994 and 1997. The UMB / BWA organized the tournament together until the beginning of 1999. Since the dissolution of the BWA in 1999, the UMB has been the sole organizer.
From 1988-1991 the UMB did not host any world championships. During this time, the annual overall winner of the World Cup was crowned world champion.
